Tips to stay cool when you climb

Pick your moment. Early mornings and late evenings are consistently the most comfortable times.

Don’t skip the boring stuff. Hydration matters more than people realise. Drinking regularly between attempts is more important in a hot gym and definitely if you’re continuing to push yourself.

Adjust how you climb. Summer sessions suit slower, more technical climbing. Focusing on footwork, balance and movement tends to be far more productive than fighting for one last power move.

Take real rests. Sitting down, lowering your heart rate and letting your body temperature drop makes a noticeable difference between attempts, especially if you’re in a bit of a sweat box.

Why summer sessions can feel harder generally

Climbing in heat has a habit of making people question their ability.

Moves that felt solid a month ago suddenly feel impossible. Skin goes quickly. Often, everything just feels harder.

Heat changes friction, humidity affects chalk, and higher body temperature raises fatigue faster than most people realise.

Understanding how conditions affect climbing helps put sessions back in perspective.
